Claire Richards and Andy Bell join forces on their powerhouse duet version of ABBA’s 1978 hit Summer Night City.
Lifted from the Steps star’s forthcoming second solo LP, ‘Euphoria’, the track – produced by Steve Anderson and Ian Masterson – follows lead single I Surrender and is one of two duets on the record.
“Andy Bell and I have known eachother since we were on the same season of ‘Popstar To Opera Star’ in 2011. Our teams got chatting about a possible duet, which I was instantly up for. We suggested doing Summer Night City because we knew my album was going to be a covers album,” she tells RETROPOP, with the song selection apt for the synth-pop legend, who topped the charts back in 1992 with Erasure’s ‘Abba-esque’ EP.

The follow-up to 2019’s ‘My Wildest Dreams’ showcases the Steps star’s powerful and stunning vocals on a lovingly curated collection of covers of songs by female singers who have helped shape her as an artist.
“Every single song is a banger – listening to this album just makes me feel good,” says Claire. “I want everyone to whack it on before they go out and get themselves completely in the zone of having a good time.”
Alongside the single, the LP launches with its title song, originally by two-time Eurovision winner Loreen, and includes versions of Cher’s Song For The Lonely, Donna Summer’s This Time I Know It’s For Real and Whitney Houston’s So Emotional.
There are also two powerhouse duets, with Australian superstar Delta Goodrem also joining Claire on their own rendition of Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer’s No More Tears (Enough Is Enough).
Coinciding with the release, Claire will play a run of live dates across the UK throughout the summer.
‘Euphoria’ is out August 25 on Demon and available to pre-order now.
