Stevie Nicks paid tribute to her late Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie during the opening night of her US Tour with Billy Joel.
The singer-songwriter and keyboard player passed away last year following a short illness, with Friday night’s show Nicks’ first since losing her friend and colleague.
Following a hit-packed set at So-Fi Stadium in Inglewood, California, the superstar closed out the show with the band’s 1975 track Landslide, during which a series of poignant images of the pair appeared on the screens at the venue.
Becoming visibly emotional by the end of the track, Nicks paid tribute to McVie, saying: “There’s really not much to say. We just pretend that she’s still here, that’s how I’m trying to deal with it.”
Earlier in the night, she covered Free Fallin’ as a tribute to her late friend Tom Petty, and was joined on stage by Joel for a rendition of Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.
Nicks later returned the favour, duetting with the musician during his co-headline set on a version of his 1990 track And So It Goes.
