The Veronicas are back with a bang with two new albums set for release later this year.
The duo, featuring identical twin sisters Jessica and Lisa Origliasso, have released a string of standalone singles following their self-titled 2014 release, and they’re now set to drop those tracks along with new cuts across two LPs.
Beginning May 28, The Veronicas will drop ‘Godzilla’, the first of two albums, which features “distorted guitars, screaming, and 80s Synths”, according to the band.
Led by title track Godzilla, the album also contains previous releases In My Blood and The Only High. During promo for the former, The Veronicas confirmed they had worked with Cathy Dennis on music for a planned “electro-fused” album, which never materialised. It’s yet to be confirmed whether these tracks made the cut.
The duo will follow the release with a second collection, ‘Human’, on July 2, which promises to explore their abilities as “vulnerable songwriters,” according to a press release.
According to Jessica and Lisa, ‘Human’ was originally planned as their fourth album, but was bumped to make way for ‘Godzilla’, which will see The Veronicas assume their “public alter egos”.
They previously told Marie Claire: “Although we’ve been writing this album over a few years, the majority of it was created in a cohesive time period. It feels like a completion of something.
“It feels like we had all these mini-bursts through this creation. And that whatever shift needed to happen was completed by the end of this writing phase. And each record has felt like that.
“But our second record [‘Hook Me Up’] and this record, most predominantly for that feeling.”
A UK release for both albums has yet to be confirmed, however both ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Human’ are available to pre-order from Australian retailers.
