Martin Kemp’s already offered up 1,500 free tickets to NHS staff for his DJ gigs at the end of the year – and now he’s hoping to reunite Spandau Ballet for a benefit gig.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 on Sunday, the Gold hitmaker revealed: “I’d love to see Spandau get back together and do a gig for the NHS.
“If we can make that work and everybody can… all 5 of us can put down our egos for five minutes, then I would jump at that.”
Explaining the group hasn’t seen each other “for a good few years”, Martin said: “We struggle – we’re best friends when we’re together and we’re enemies when we’re apart.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love the other boys dearly… but it’s been difficult for everyone.”
Spandau Ballet’s original singer Tony Hadley announced on Twitter back in 2017 that due to circumstances beyond his control, he was no longer a member of the band.
The rest of the band released their own statement explaining that Hadley had made it clear to them that he did not want to work with the band any more, and that they had now reached the decision “to move on as a band”.
The rest of the group later called it quits in 2019.
