Janet Jackson’s self-titled, four-hour documentary will debut in January 2022.
The singer’s forthcoming project has been in the works for five years – following the release of her most-recent album ‘Unbreakable’ – and was largely filmed around the time of the death of her father Joe in 2018.
The feature relies heavily on archival footage and draws on moments such as the death of Janet’s brother Michael Jackson in 2009.
“This is my story, told by me. Not through someone else’s eyes,” says the singer in a newly-shared trailer.
“This is the truth. Take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me.”
‘Janet.’ coincides with the 40th anniversary of the release of the Nasty star’s self-titled debut album.
‘Janet Jackson’ was released in Septmeber 1982, but it wasn’t until she released ‘Control’, produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, that her career soared to unprecedented heights.
It’s been six years since Janet released new music and earlier this year she teased a return to the studio to complete her long-awaited ‘Black Diamond’ project.
