Vanessa Carlton’s classic hit A Thousand Miles was inspired by a crush she had on a guy who’s now a famous actor.
The singer released the track as the lead single from her debut album ‘Be Not Nobody’ back in 2002 and, speaking ahead of its 20th anniversary, Vanessa opened up on who the subject is that she’s singing about.
In her documentary with Vice, the star reveals: “The song is about a crush I had on a Juilliard student. I can’t say the person’s name because they are a famous actor and I don’t want to say it.”
“I’m purposefully, I’m not attaching a gender and it will remain like that,” hints Vanessa, adding to the speculation of which actor it is about.
Meanwhile, the Carousel singer also spoke about how it’s taken her a long time to really like the song again.
“I figured out how to make peace with that song, how to honor people’s connection with that song and realize that song does not belong to me anymore,” she says.
“That allows me to move forward as a musician.”
Vanessa released her sixth studio album ‘Love Is An Art’ in 2020, with an expanded Deluxe Edition dropping earlier this year.
