Stevie Nicks is a massive fan of the latest John Lewis Home Insurance TV commercial. 

The clip, which premiered on UK TV last week, is soundtracked by her classic 1981 hit Edge of Seventeen and features a little boy in a dress, rummaging through his mother’s belongings and tearing through the family home.

Many social media users praised the advert after it debuted on Channel 4 during a Great British Bake Off ad-break on Monday, while others expressed their dismay at its content. 

One particularly disgruntled viewer called the commercial “delusional, woke, abhorrent hogwash” and “the most sanctimonious, self-serving example of an advert I’ve ever seen”.

Despite the backlash, however, Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie heaped praise on the ad, writing: “Love this! #EdgeOfSeventeen.”

And John Lewis also issued a statement, shutting down the criticism aimed at the clip, titled ‘Let life happen’, insisting it’s “designed to show the young actor getting carried away with his dramatic performance”.

“At John Lewis, we believe in children having fun and that’s why we chose this playful storyline for our latest advert,” they said. 

“He is not willfully damaging his home and is unaware of the unintentional consequences of his actions.

“If customers have Accidental Damage Cover with our Home Insurance, this would cover a range of major and minor home disasters – including unintentional breakages caused by children in the family.”
