Steps have covered Lina Hedlund’s 2019 Melodifestivalen entry Victorious on their upcoming album.
The group is due to release ‘What The Future Holds Pt. 2’ on September 10 and, after staring the tracklist for the LP, Lina and songwriter Melanie Wehbe shared their excitement that the banger was included.
“Talking about how music travel, in September British pop group Steps will release ‘What The Future Holds Pt2’ and I’m excited to have written one of the songs on their upcoming album,” wrote Melanie on Instagram, urging followers to “swipe right and guess which one.”
Joining the comments, Lina wrote “#victorious” with Lina confirming: “the queen herself has spoken”.
Meanwhile, in her own post, Lina – who has participated in Sweden’s Eurovision selection contest a number of times both solo and with Alcazar – added: “How cool ?! STEPS does a cover of my Victorious.”
Steps released a cover of Jenny Silver’s 2011 Melodifestivalen entri, Something in Your Eyes, as the second single from ‘What The Future Holds’ and have frequently teamed up with swedish songwriters and producers for their records.
‘What The Future Holds Pt. 2’ continues the trend – Thomas G:son (who wrote Something in Your Eyes) has penned Living In A Lie, while Wasted Tears is written by Malin Christin (who co-wrote Malta’s 2021 Eurovision song, Je me casse).
Speaking to Retro Pop, singer Claire Richards previously teased the group was happy to “have the opportunity” to explore more Melodifestivalen tracks, admitting: “We’re always on the lookout for good pop songs, and the Swedes do them probably better than most!”
