Steps have shared a glimpse behind the camera from the set of the music video for their latest single Something In Your Eyes.
In the clip, Claire, H, Lisa, Lee and Faye look sensational in a number of futuristic, pastel and metallic looks, with the group breaking into one of their trademark dance routines for the irresistible chorus.
The visual also features a number of neon set designs that couldn’t be better suited to the upbeat, dance floor friendly tune – juxtaposing the dark theme of the previous clip for lead single, What The Future Holds.
Speaking in the BTS clip, director Carly Cussen says: “We’re going for a real, real pop video. Loads of performance, loads of choreography, loads of tricks, cool lighting…
Claire describes the shoot as the “polar opposite” to the previous visual, while admitting they’ll “sit really well together” within the context of the album.
She also showed off her look, dressed “head-to-toe in silver plastic – which is always nice,” as Lisa raved over her similarly-designed off-the-shoulder cape, which she works in her solo shots.
Faye and Lee, meanwhile, performed on spinning platforms in their solo scenes, with Faye calling the shoot “exhausting” while noting she “doesn’t get travel sick, so it’s all good”.
It was H who suffered the biggest mishap of day, as his pants split at the crotch while shooting his own scenes, leaving the star red-faced. He later dons a second look which he describes as “bondage Ken” – although judging from Lisa’s laugh, she’s not convinced.
Towards the end of the clip, the five band members reunite to shoot the choreography for the chorus, which they filmed on a massive spinning platform and stationary, while wearing those mirrored glasses.
Something In Your Eyes is taken from Steps’ sixth album, What The Future Holds, with the group performing the track at the Royal Variety Performance in December.
In our review of the album, Retro Pop called What The Future Holds the group’s “most confident, polished release yet” which “plays to each of the members’ strengths and showcases the versatility of Steps as Britain’s premier pop group”.
Steps’ sixth album, What The Future Holds, is out now. Catch the group on tour across the UK from November 2021 – tickets are available here.
