Sophie Ellis Bextor has recorded versions of Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) and Laura Branigan’s Self Control for a new orchestral album. 

‘Classical 80s Dance’, due September 3, features 19 recordings by the Alex Christensen & The Berlin Orchestra of hits including Voyage Voyage, Tainted Love and Fade to Grey. 

Alongside the musicians is a host of A-list guest stars, including Sophie, who has two contributions on the album. 

Also included is Ronan Keating, who lends vocals to lead single Smalltown Boy, originally by Bronski Beat, and Gary Barlow, who performs on Crowded House’s Don’t Dream It’s Over.

Another ‘80s icon, Bonnie Tyler, has re-recorded her classic hit Total Eclipse of the Heart for the LP.
