Sophie Ellis-Bextor highlights the strain of Covid-19 on the live music industry in the music video for her latest single, Crying at the Discotheque.
In the visual for the track – a cover of the Alcazar classic which samples the disco classic Spacer by Sheila and B. Devotion – Sophie performs in a number of empty live music venues across London, including the London Palladium, St. Moritz Club, Omeara and The O2.
“Here’s the video for Crying At The Discotheque from my greatest hits Songs From The Kitchen Disco,” tweeted the Bittersweet hitmaker. “Filmed in as many empty London venues as possible to highlight all that’s on hold right now.”
She also encouraged followers to support the #WeMakeEvents campaign, which aims to highlight that the live events sector urgently needs support from local governments to survive the Covid-19 crisis.
Crying at the Discotheque features on the pop star’s forthcoming greatest hits collection, Songs from the Kitchen Disco, and was covered by Sophie during her hugely popular Instagram Live concert series during the Covid-19 pandemic.
