Sophie Ellis-Bextor has finally dropped the first single from her Songs from the Kitchen Disco album – a cover of Alcazar’s classic Crying at the Discotheque!
The track, which samples Sheila B. Devotion’s ’70s hit Spacer, was a fan favourite when the hitmaker performed it during her beloved lockdown live stream series, making a single release the perfect move to kick off the campaign.
In keeping with the disco theme, the new version of the tune is true to the original, and Sophie owns the cover with her distinctive vocals and infectious charisma.
“I always loved the song & since I sang it during the kitchen discos it forever holds a special place in my heart,” Sophie tweeted. “Enjoy! x.”

The release comes as it was confirmed the album has been pushed back from its original October release to November 13th.
Songs from the Kitchen Disco features Sophie’s biggest hits from across her six albums, plus the new single, covers of New Order’s True Faith, Pulp’s Do You Remember The First Time? and The Sound of Music classic My Favourite Things.
A 2020 re-recording of the star’s first chart-topper, Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love), produced by Freemasons, is also included.
Sophie will support Songs from the Kitchen Disco with a UK tour in May 2021 – tickets are available here.
