Shania Twain will receive the Music Icon honour at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards.

Ahead of the release of her sixth album, ‘Queen of Me’, the Life’s About To Get Good singer will be recognised at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on December 6.

“I’m so incredibly honoured to be named ‘Music Icon,'” she said in a statement. “I have some of the greatest fans in the world. They have supported me since the early days, and it’s their love and passion that keeps me going. 

“I’m thrilled to go back on tour and bring my new music and fan favourites to them, and what better way to start than at the People’s Choice Awards!”

During the ceremony, Shania will perform a medley of her greatest hits as well as her new track, Waking Up Dreaming.

The country-pop superstar is the second recipient of the Music Icon award, following last year’s inaugural winner, Christina Aguilera.

She joins previously announced People’s Choice honorees Lizzo, who will receive the People’s Champion Award, and People’s Icon Award recipient, Ryan Reynolds.

‘Saturday Night Live’ star Kenan Thompson will host the awards show for the second consecutive year.

Shania will release her latest studio album ‘Queen of Me’ early next year, with the project described as “the superstar’s most triumphant-feeling body of work; an album about standing in your own power and worshipping yourself.”

“These days, I’m feeling very comfortable in my own skin – and I think this album reflects that musically,” penned Shania. “Life is short and I want to be uplifted, colorful, unapologetic and empowered. I want to carry a clear message, particularly as a woman, to always remember my power and I hope the songs are a reminder to you, of that same power inside you!

“I want to celebrate this new chapter with you all on my tour! Vegas has been a dream, but I’m ready to be on the road and sing with you, dance with you and have a kick ass night out with you! This one’s gonna be a big party – no inhibitions, no conditions, let’s get a little out of line!!

In support of the album, which features the singles Waking Up Dreaming and Not Just a Girl, along with new track Last Day of Summer, co-written with Jack Savoretti, Shania will embark on a world tour .

The ‘Queen of Me Tour’ kicks off in April with a North American leg running through July, before hitting the UK and Ireland in September with shows across the country.

Additionally, Shania and Live Nation have announced that £/€1.50 per ticket sold (less deductions for tax and royalties) will be donated to Shania Kids Can, which provides services that promote positive change in children’s lives in times of crises and economic hardship.

‘Queen of Me’, which features 12 songs in total, comes out February 3 and is available to pre-order now. Tickets for the ‘Queen of Me Tour’ are on general sale now.
