Shakira became the first musical artist to perform a halftime show at the Copa América final at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on Sunday (July 14).
The pop superstar took to the stage the final of the world’s oldest football tournament, which saw Argentina and Colombia go up against one another, and delivered a 7.5-minute showcase of some of her biggest hits.
Opening with the classic Hips Don’t Lie, Shakira also performed Te Felicito, TQG and Puntería with a team of 12 dancers.
The latter song – a collaboration with Cardi B – was the official song for TelevisaUnivision coverage, the official broadcaster of Copa América™️ CONMEBOL 2024 in the United States.
Alejandro Domínguez, the president of CONMEBO, previously said in a statement: “Shakira is an extraordinary South American star who has dazzled the entire world.
“Her songs are sung and danced to in every corner of the planet, turning her art into a global phenomenon that crosses borders and is enjoyed by millions of people.”
He continued: “We are sure that her performance at the Copa América USA 2024 will enhance the message of healthy passion and unity through sport.”
