Róisín Murphy has shared Assimilation as the first single to be lifted from her new ‘Crooked Machine’ remix album.
The singer, who released her fifth LP, ‘Róisín Machine’, last October, has reworked the tunes for her latest collection, due April 30.
Remixed by the star’s long-time collaborator Crooked Man aka DJ Parrot, the new mix of album opener Simulation is more pared back compared with the original, with less nuance with maintaining a pulsing beat.
Announcing the album in an email to her fan club, Róisín teased: “Think of ‘Róisín Machine’ as the main event, ‘Crooked Machine’ rings deeper into the night, carrying a familiar feeling of the songs you’ve heard before, with darker twists and turns.
“It’s the afterparty and you’re all invited,” she teases. “Parrot (Crooked Man) is my main collaborator – we worked on ‘Róisín Machine’ together and he quite often came up with various versions of a song.
“This album is Parrot’s take on the whole album.”
‘Crooked Machine’ is available to pre-order now on digital platform. Details of a physical release have yet to be confirmed.
‘Róisín Machine’ is the culmination of a decades-long partnership between Murphy and Parrot and features the singles Simulation, Jealousy, Incapable, Narcissus and Something More.
Following its October 2020 release, Retro Pop called ‘Róisín Machine’ “a masterclass for those in her shadow in hedonistic, dance floor-ready, feel-good anthems”.
