Proud Foo Fighters fan Rick Astley continued to showcase his love for the group with a soulful cover of their classic Everlong.
The Never Gonna Give You Up hitmaker took to YouTube to debut his acoustic version of the track, explaining he hopes his rendition will “lift your spirits and put you in another place”
“Sometimes you just have to find a song that’s gonna lift your spirits… I’ve been doing that a lot recently with music,” he said.
“One of the bands I always go to, believe it or not, is Foo Fighters.”
Rick stripped down the song, from the Foos’ 1997 album The Colour and the Shape, and even ad-libbed an enthusiastic “Come on!” to his virtual audience later in the chorus.
It’s not the first time Rick’s tackled a Foo Fighters track – at Tokyo’s Summer Sonic Festival in 2017, the singer teamed with the group for a grungy take on Never Gonna Give You Up.
They also performed that version at a 2017 London show and the 2019 Reading Festival, after fans picked up on certain similarities between the Stock Aitken Waterman classic and Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit.
