Musik Music Musique 1980 – The Dawn Of Synth Pop, a new 3CD collection of synth pop classics, is set to be released in July.
The collection is “an essential and insightful compendium of a place and time unique in musical chronology,” per a press release, featuring acts including OMD, The Human League, and Spandau Ballet.
Kim Wilde, Toyah, The Buggles, Visage, The Residents, and Ultravox are also included, alongside lesser-known acts who were integral to the development of the genre.
“1980 saw Synth Pop shake off the stigma and become the most vital, modern and energetic musical movement on the planet,” the release continued.
“From upbeat disco evolutions to ice-cold post-punk expressions, dancefloors, record racks and the music press soon filled with unusual and futuristic new artists, many of whom found homes with major labels.
“In retrospect, the speed at which these new instruments and production techniques were absorbed by such a variety of artists astounds and confounds.”
Not only a must-have for any synth pop fanatic, Musik Music Musique is also a great introduction to the genre, which would form the musical landscape of decades to come.
