Moby kicked off 2023 with the release of his new album ‘Ambient 23’.
Released on January 1, the LP was recorded using “weird old drum machines and old synths,” according to the musician, and is “inspired by… early ambient heroes”.
He cites Martyn Ware, Brian Eno, Jean-Michel Jarre and Will Sergeant among the biggest influences on the project.
In a social media post on the day of release, Moby wrote: “Made to help anxiety (my own, and hopefully yours, too). For 2023, may we all be less anxious (and may we all stop looking for validation from a culture we don’t respect…).”
The 16-track record follows ‘Reprise’; a May 2021 collection of early Moby songs recorded with updated orchestral arrangements.
