Mariah Carey has put her planned celebrations to mark 30 years since the release of her self-titled debut album on hold amid the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests.
The elusive chanteuse released her record-breaking album on 12 June 1990, featuring the US No. 1 hits Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time, Someday, I Don’t Wanna Cry, and There’s Got To Be A Way.
And while the singer took to social media to acknowledge the moment, she opted to postpone her planned celebrations due to the current social unrest.
“Thank you Lambily, for all the celebratory messages for today’s #MC30 anniversary!
“I had planned to share some surprises & rarities with you, but prefer to postpone them to a later date.”
She continued: “As we continue to fight for equality and justice within our broken systems, I thank you for using your platforms to educate, inform, and invoke change.
“Together let’s bring on a change.”
Mariah has not been shy when it comes to treating fans for their loyalty this year, and most recently uploaded her fan-favourite soundtrack album Glitter to streaming services – two years after the #JusticeForGlitter campaign got the track to No. 1 on iTunes.
