Madonna is the latest star to campaign for Britney Spears’ freedom after liking her conservatorship to “slavery”.
The Queen of Pop collaborated with the singer on her 2003 hit Me Against the Music and, amid Britney’s ongoing legal battle, called her situation a “violation of human rights”.
She wrote on her Instagram Stories: “Give this woman her life back. Slavery was abolished so long ago! Death to the greedy patriarchy that has been doing this to women for centuries. This is a violation of human rights!”
Vowing to fight for her freedom and comparing her experience to a prison sentence, the Hung Up star added: “Britney we coming to Get you out of jail! [sic]”
Last month, the Oops!… I Did It Again singer told a Los Angeles court she was “depressed” and “traumatised” by the situation, which has been enforced on the star since 2008.
During the appearance, she pleaded with a judge to scrap the legal restrictions over her life, which see her father Jamie Spears control various aspects of her personal and professional arrangements.
Following the shocking testimony, fellow pop star and ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’ co-star Christina Aguilera – who performed with Britney and Madonna at the MTV VMAs in 2003 – also spoke out in support of the Slumber Party hitmaker.
“These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through,” she penned in a series of tweets.
“It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.”
Urging others to support Britney, the Fighter star added: “My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”
