Christina Aguilera has spoken out in support of her former Disney co-star Britney Spears. 

The Your Body singer starred alongside Britney in Disney’s ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’ in the ‘90s and, following her shocking conservatorship testimony, in which she pleaded with a Los Angeles judge to free her from the “traumatising” arrangement, Christina has backed the Toxic singer in her battle. 

“These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through,” she penned in a series of tweets. 

“It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.

“To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those ‘close’ to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable. The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly.

“Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness.

“While I am not behind the closed doors of this very layered & personal yet public conversation – all I can do is share from my heart on what I’ve heard, read and seen in the media. The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control.

“To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life.”

Urging others to support Britney, the Not Myself Tonight singer added: “My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”

Christina’s support comes after Britney spoke out about her 13-year-old conservatorship during a hearing on June 23, telling Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny it had left her “traumatised” and living in a state of “denial”. 

“I’ve lied and told the whole world ‘I’m okay. And I’m happy.’ It’s a lie,” she said. “I thought [if] just maybe I said that enough… Because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised.

“You know, fake it till you make it. But now I’m telling you the truth. Okay? I’m not happy,” insisted the Stronger hitmaker. “I can’t sleep. I’m so angry. It’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

Following Britney’s shocking claims surrounding her treatment in the conservatorship, fans supporting the #FreeBritney movement and stars took to social media to lend their support.
