One month after being out of the hospital after suffering a health setback, Madonna admits she feels “lucky to be alive” as she reflects on the incident.
The pop legend last week celebrated the 40th anniversary of her debut album, alongside which she released a special digital single of the classic Lucky Star – and in a new post, she says she feels fortunate too, thanking her family and friends for rallying around in her hour of need.
“Love from family and friends is the best Medicine,” she began her post. “One month out of the hospital and I can reflect.
“As a mother you can really get caught up in the needs of your children and the seemingly endless giving. But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before.”
Referencing an image showed her holding a framed Polaroid of Keith Haring wearing a jacket with Michael Jackson‘s face painted on it, taken by Andy Warhol, she wrote: “A perfect triangle of brilliance. Artists who touched so many lives including my own.”
“I sobbed when I opened this gift because I realized how lucky I am to be alive. And how fortunate I am to have known these people and so many others who are also gone.”In conclusion, the Love Profusion hitmaker added: “Thank you to all my angels who protected me and let me stay to finish doing my work.”
On the back of her hospitalisation, Madonna was forced to delay the launch of her ‘Celebration Tour’, with the opening North American leg – which had been due to commence on July 15 – being pushed and the run now set to start in Europe in October.
Sharing a statement on social media, Madonna said at the time: “Thank you for your positive energy, Prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.
“My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.
“My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can! The current plan is to reschedule the North American leg of the tour and to begin in October in Europe. I couldn’t be more grateful for your care and support. Love, M.”
Updated dates for Madonna’s ‘Celebration Tour’ have yet to be announced.
