Madonna has opened up on the reaction to her coffee table book ‘Sex’ (1992), which turned 30 this year.

The publication was released alongside her fifth album ‘Erotica’ and was considered controversial at the time, due to its explicit content.

Looking back on its legacy, the Queen of Pop wrote on her Instagram Stories: “30 years ago I published a book called S.E.X.

“In addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone. I also wrote about my sexual fantasies and shared my point of view about sexuality in an ironic way.

“I spent the next few years being interviewed by narrow minded people who tried to shame me for empowering myself as a Woman,” she continued. “I was called a whore, a witch, a heretic and the devil.”

“Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball. You’re welcome bitches.”

In a subsequent post, she shared a 1992 interview clip from ‘60 Minutes Australia’, in which the superstar defended her choice to publish the tome.

Having been told by the host that he’d “never seen the likes of it,” calling the book “horrible,” Madonna fired back: “I think people’s reaction to specific situations in the book was much more a reflection of that person than me.”

The superstar recently celebrated the anniversary of ‘Erotica’ with the release of a limited edition 12” vinyl picture disc, featuring a colourised version of the famous ‘toe sucking’ photo taken from ‘Sex’.

The Erotica picture disc is available now.

It comes after Madonna celebrated her 50 US Dance Club Songs Chart No. 1 hits with the ‘Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones’ remix collection.

The 50-track collection includes her favourite remixes of her dance hits, spanning her entire four-decade career.

Each remix has been newly remastered by Mike Dean, who produced Madonna’s two most-recent studio albums, ‘Rebel Heart’ and ‘Madame X’.

In addition to the bumper set, an abridged 16-track LP, simply titled ‘Finally Enough Love’, has also been issued.

‘Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones’ is available now.
