The Weeknd would love to produce Madonna’s next album – and she seems totally on board with the idea. 

The Canadian superstar – who is currently the No. 1 artist worldwide on Spotify – and the Queen of Pop have joined forces on their new single, Popular, also featuring Playboi Carti, which is out now. 

In a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the Blinding Lights star – real name Abel Tesfaye – opened up about collaborating with Madonna, admitting: “I’ve always wanted to work with her. 

“I’ve always wanted to write and produce a Madonna album… well, co-produce with her, of course. She’s a visionary and she has such a singular vision, and I just want to come into her world and create a classic Madonna album. 

“That was always my dream. Hopefully this is the appetiser for that.”

Sharing a screenshot of his comments on her Instagram story, the Vogue singer seemed more than ready to accept his offer, writing “Let’s Gooooooo!” along with a rocket ship emoji.

Popular appears on the soundtrack to The Weeknd’s new HBO show ‘The Idol’, which premiers Sunday, June 4, and although it marks the first official collaboration between the artists, he promised that viewers will “hear more of her in the show”.

It comes ahead of the launch of the legendary performer’s ‘Celebration Tour’, celebrating 40 years of hits, which will take us on Madonna’s artistic journey through four decades and pays respect to the city of New York where her career in music began, according to a press release.

“I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” says Madonna.

Launching in North America in July, Madonna will play shows in the region through October, before performing a European leg into December. She’ll return to the US in January 2024 for another run of live dates.

Bob the Drag Queen a.k.a. Caldwell Tidicue will guest across all dates on the global tour.
