Australian pop group Cub Sport are back with their fifth album ‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’.

The four-piece – who peaked at No. 2 Down Under with their latest record ‘Like Nirvana’ back in 2020 – are back with a euphoric new collection, celebrating love and living authentically across 10 feel good tracks.

Cub Sport unveil euphoric new single ‘Songs About It’

In a review of the album, RETROPOP called ‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’ the group’s “finest body of work yet” and “an ode to celebrating one’s past and looking boldly into the future, without the fear of past demons resurfacing”.

‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’ is out April 7 and available to pre-order now.

RETROPOP named Cub Sport as One to Watch in 2023, with Tim and his husband and bandmate Sam Netterfield speaking exclusively about their new music.

“I knew that I wanted the next era of Cub Sport to feel a bit more uplifting,” said Tim. “Even if the lyrics weren’t necessarily happy, I wanted that feeling around it.”

It’s a conscious choice that came about when they finally got to perform their latest LP on stage, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. “Our album that we put out in 2020 was super personal and, sonically, reflected the journey of all the lyrics. It’s like a big emotional purge,” he added.

“At the end of the year, we got to play two hometown shows that were seated and socially distanced, and I didn’t realise how emotional it would be for me. I was struggling to not burst into tears!

“So that contributed to the vision for the next era and I thought it would be nice to be able to find a more joyful sound.”
