Laura Mvula has named Talking Heads star David Byrne as the inspiration behind her new album ‘Pink Noise’.
The singer released her third studio album this week, featuring the singles Safe Passage, Church Girl and Got Me.
And reflecting on the synth-heavy LP, the singer tells Daily Star touring with the new wave legend prompted her to explore a more retro sound.
“It was an incredible production, like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” she recalled.
“They were playing wireless instruments with bare feet all in grey suits.
“It was like the church of David Byrne and just what I needed for inspiration. He is such a kind encourager.”
The album is a triumph, but Laura admits recording at home during the pandemic was far from ideal – not least of all because it led to her housemate leaving.
“I had a housemate that eventually had to move out because it was so tough,” she said.
‘Pink Noise’ is out now.
