Kylie Minogue topped the charts worldwide with her 15th album ‘DISCO’, making her the first female artist to hit No. 1 in the UK across five decades.

It features the hits Say Something and Magic, along with the Dua Lipa collaboration Real Groove, and was brought to life onscreen with the mega ‘Infinite Disco’ livestream event.

Join us as we revisit the LP and determine which track is Kylie’s best disco offering.

Unstoppable

The only skip on the standard album, Unstoppable is – ironically – the one song we do stop and hit ‘skip’. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either, and after the euphoric Dance Floor Darling, it just misses the mark.

Spotlight

Another misstep from the deluxe bonus tracks this time – which, by the way, are otherwise very good – where, despite lyrics about ‘wanting to stay out’ and ‘dancing like crazy’, Kylie sounds ready for an Uber home. There again, the fourth bonus track is never really great…  Low Blow, anyone?

Fine Wine

A fun homage to Donna Summer’s Bad Girls, Fine Wine ticks all the disco boxes and probably only missed a spot on the standard album because of its similarities with Monday Blues. Still, we’re glad to have it as a bonus cut.

Till You Love Somebody

Should have replaced Unstoppable on the standard album; we’re still not quite sure how the rather good Till You Love Somebody was bumped from the running order. Similar sentiments, but so much stronger.

Monday Blues

A complete miss for us on first listen, but Kylie’s standout performance on the ‘Infinite Disco’ livestream convinced us to give Monday Blues another shot. Not her best, but a fun, campy track nonetheless.

Celebrate You

A love song to the fans and a perfect album closer, Celebrate You is disco fromage in all the right ways and we’re totally here for it. Sure to be a special moment on stage.

Hey Lonely

The best of the bonus tracks and a highlight from the overall package, Hey Lonely so deserved a place on the standard album and, if there’s any justice, will get it’s moment on the tour.

Where Does the DJ Go?

With references to Studio 54 and Gloria Gaynor’s disco smash I Will Survive, Kylie is besotted with an as-yet-unnamed disc jockey on Where Does the DJ Go? Annoyingly, she never finds out, and neither do we…

I Love It

Another ‘70s-inspired throwback with sounds of Donna Summer and Diana Ross, I Love It always has us dancing from start to finish. Classic but still sounding fresh.

Supernova

BANGER.

Real Groove

From its scaled back electronic verses to that earworm of a chorus, Real Groove is surprisingly easy to overlook compared with some of the bolder ‘DISCO’ tracks. But with so many versions on offer – album original, Dua Lipa ‘Studio 2054 Remix’ and Initial Talk edit – we just can’t get enough.

Magic

‘Do you believe in magic?’ Kylie asks on the album opener and second single, inviting fans old and new into the ‘DISCO’ universe. Very much your typical Kylie single, Magic combines the pop star’s commercial style with a shimmering disco edge.

Dance Floor Darling

The perfect singalong chorus and a standout from the album, Dance Floor Darling might be the one that got away from KM15 and absolutely should have been given the single and remix treatment. That tempo change… amazing!

Say Something

The album’s lead single was met with a mixed response from disco purists, but layered synths, lush harmonies and a particularly poignant message more than earns Say Something’s single status. One of her best ever lead tracks, in fact.

Last Chance

Kylie’s homage to ABBA was always going to be a hit, but even we couldn’t predict the greatness of Last Chance, her take on the classic Voulez-Vous. She’s got us coming back for that first dance over and over again.

Miss a Thing

‘DISCO’ largely covers the frothier side of the genre, but it’s Miss a Thing – the darkest, sultriest cut on the LP – that wins the top spot on our album countdown. Perfection on first listen and crying out for a remix package – c’mon Kylie, let’s dance!
