Kelly Clarkson will release her new single, Favorite Kind of High, this week.
The track is the third to be lifted from the superstar’s forthcoming LP, ‘Chemistry’, following the double single drop of Mine / Me.
“you’re my favorite kind of high. new song from my album #chemistry comes out on 5.19! pre-save now. link in bio,” the singer captioned the track’s cover art, featuring a black-and-white photo of her.
It comes following a Rolling Stone report that claimed her hit US programme, ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’, had become a “toxic” workplace, prompting the singer to pledge to better the conditions for employees ahead of a move to New York.
“In my 20 years in the entertainment industry, I’ve always led with my heart and what I believed to be right,” she penned in a statement. “I love my team at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’, and to find out that anyone is feeling unheard and or disrespected on this show is unacceptable,’ she continued.
“I have always been, and will continue to be, committed to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’,” she insisted. “As we prepare for a move to the east coast, I am more committed than ever to ensuring that not only our team that is moving, but also our new team in NY, is comprised of the best and kindest in the business.
“Part of that build will include leadership training for all of the senior staff, including myself,” added Kelly. “There is always room to grow and ensure we are all being/becoming the best version of ourselves in any business, especially when it comes to leadership, to ensure that any notion of toxicity is eradicated.”
Inspired by her 2020 divorce with Brandon Blackstock, the latest LP from the superstar clocks in at 14 tracks and is due June 23.
“Having chemistry with someone is an incredible and overwhelming feeling. It’s like you have no choice in the matter. You are just drawn to each other. This can be good and bad,” says Kelly of the record. “This album takes you down every path that chemistry could lead you down.”
Alongside the album, Kelly will also launch an intimate 10-night engagement at Las Vegas’ Bakkt Theater (formerly Zappos Theater), beginning July 28.
Having originally been slated to perform a different show, titled ‘Invincible’ in April 2020 – with plans axed due to the Covid-19 pandemic – she’s finally set to return to the stage in Sin City this summer.
“The goal was to make a living doing what I love and I’ve been able to do that and connect with people. That’s incredible. At 19, I was just looking to pay my water bill, I didn’t have anything,” she shared.
“It’s a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck. I don’t know if I ever thought it would be this big. I did not think I would end up having an exclusive little 10-show stint in Las Vegas.”
The venue has been home to residency shows from stars including Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Shania Twain in recent years.
‘Chemistry’ – featuring guest appearances from Steve Martin and Sheila E. – is out June 23 and available to pre-order now.
