Janet Jackson is set to look back over her extraordinary life and career with a two-part documentary special headed to Lifetime and A+E in 2022.
Marking 40 years since the release of her self-titled debut album in 1982, the show – with the working title ‘JANET’ – will offer unprecedented access to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s life.
Billed as an intimate, honest and unfiltered look at the untold story of one of the biggest artists in music history, filming on ‘JANET’ has been underway for three years.
It follows Janet as her family navigates the loss of her father, Joseph, the patriarch of the Jackson dynasty who passed in 2018.
‘JANET’ is also expected to delve into the most talked-about moments of her life, including her 2004 Super Bowl appearance with Justin Timberlake in which she inadvertently exposed a portion of her breast, along with the Black Cat star’s reaction to the death of her brother, Michael, and becoming a mother.
The show, produced by Janet Jackson and Randy Jackson, and directed by Ben Hirsch, is expected to debut in early 2022.
Janet recently celebrated 35 years since the release of her seminal 1986 album ‘Control’, with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis going behind the scenes for a brand new interview revisiting the project.
In honour of its anniversary (February 4), fans pushed ‘Control’ to the No. 1 spot on Apple’s Top 40 Pop Album Chart, prompting the star to share a candid clip on social media thanking her followers for their support through the years.
“You’re so special to me and I want to thank all of you for making Control No. 1 once again after 35 years,” the What Have You Done For Me Lately hitmaker told fans in a teary video on social media.
“I never, never in a million years, I would never think that this would happen. I really appreciate you and I love you so, so much. Thank you.”
