The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria.

The Black Sea city will host the upcoming 71st edition of the show, after DARA secured the country’s first-ever win with the track ‘Bangaranga’ back in May.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT) confirmed the news on Thursday, August 13, revealing the country’s newest sports and entertainment venue, the 15,000 capacity Arena Burgas, will stage the music competition.

The city was selected after a competitive Host City process involving four Bulgarian cities, with Martin Green CBE, Director of the Eurovision Song Contest, saying: “We are delighted that Burgas will be the Host City for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.

“Burgas brings something really special to the Eurovision Song Contest. It is a vibrant, welcoming city on the Black Sea with a strong musical and cultural identity, and it has the ambition, infrastructure and passion needed to welcome the Eurovision family.”

He added: “For the first Eurovision Song Contest ever to be held in Bulgaria, we want to create something that feels truly Bulgarian while also being unmistakably Eurovision – a celebration that brings people together through music.

“We thank all of the cities which showed such enthusiasm in their bids to host Bulgaria’s first ever Eurovision Song Contest.

Green concluded: “Together with BNT, the City of Burgas and our partners across Bulgaria, we are looking forward to creating an unforgettable Eurovision week in May and welcoming the world to Burgas.”

Milena Milotinova, Director General of BNT, said: “It was an intense and highly competitive process, so congratulations to Burgas! With this victory comes great responsibility, and I hope the ultimate winners will be the many international visitors who come to experience Burgas.

“The selection of the Host City marks the beginning of the next key stage in Bulgaria’s preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. BNT, the EBU and Burgas now have an intensive period of collaboration ahead of us as we work together to deliver a Contest that meets the high expectations of millions of viewers around the world.”

She went on: “I am confident that Bulgaria will be a worthy host of Europe’s biggest live music television event and will showcase the very best of our culture, hospitality and professionalism.”

Admitting it’s “an exceptional honour for us to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027,” Dimitar Nikolov, Мayor of Вurgas, shared: “I would like to thank BNT and the EBU for their trust. We are now one team, working together to make the next edition of the Contest an unforgettable experience for both the participants and the hundreds of millions of viewers around the world.

“As the centre of Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast, Burgas offers Bulgaria’s most modern arena, excellent hotels and transport connections, as well as outstanding infrastructure and natural assets. The entire Burgas region is part of our team – our municipalities, institutions, universities, schools, cultural organisations, artists, volunteers and local businesses.”

Nikolov concluded: “This is not about one city hosting Eurovision. This is Bulgaria hosting Eurovision – an entire community, united and inspired.”

The Semi-Finals will take place on May 11 and 13, with the Grand Final being staged on May 15.

Further information about the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest will be revealed in the coming months.
