Denise Pearson is hoping to hit the Mighty Hoopla stage with Steps for a performance of her group’s classic hit The Slightest Touch.
The track was released as the sixth single from Five Star’s second LP ‘Silk & Steel’ in 1987 and went on to become one of their most successful singles, peaking in the UK Top 5.
Speaking in the April 2022 edition of Retro Pop, Denise looks back on recording the song and shares her thoughts on Steps’ 2021 version of the track.
“Steps did such a phenomenal job with their cover,” she beams, before letting slip plans for a possible collaboration this summer.
“I contacted Ian [‘H’ Watkins, Steps singer] on Instagram and he said, ‘Yes, we’d love to do a duet!’,” she shares. “So, we’ve gotten in contact on WhatsApp and my agent is talking to their agent.
“Hopefully [Mighty Hoopla] will be the day that we duet together!”
The Slightest Touch is just one of Five Star’s classic hits and, looking back on their success, Denise is incredibly proud of their output.
“It feels amazing that we made music like that when we were teenagers,” she smiles. “It’s timeless, and what makes a song timeless is the thought and the energy that goes into it.”
