The first trailer has been shared for the forthcoming Whitney Houston biopic ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’.
Directed by Kasi Lemmons and starring Naomi Ackie in the lead role, the film offers a “no-holds-barred portrait of the complex and multifaceted woman behind The Voice”.
“‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ is a powerful and triumphant celebration of the incomparable Whitney Houston,” reads a synopsis of the project.
“From New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling and most awarded recording artists of all time, audiences are taken on an inspirational, poignant — and so emotional — journey through Houston’s trailblazing life and career, with show-stopping performances and a soundtrack of the icon’s most beloved hits as you’ve never heard them before.”
‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ follows Kevin Macdonald’s 2018 documentary ‘Whitney’ and will debut in cinemas on December 26.
Whitney shot to fame in the mid-1980s with the release of her self-titled debut album in 1985, topping the charts worldwide and landing five Grammy nominations – including Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, for Saving All My Love for You.
It also delivered hits such as How Will I Know and Greatest Love of All, while follow-up ‘Whitney’ launched her career to new heights, with the global smashes I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) and So Emotional.
Next year, ‘Whitney’ and ‘Whitney Houston’, along with follow-ups ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’, ’The Preacher’s Wife’ soundtrack album, and ‘My Love Is Your Love’ will be reissued on vinyl, the late star’s estate has confirmed.
