Fans weren’t happy to discover Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Sunday set at Glastonbury wasn’t available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
The pop icon opened the Pyramid Stage on the final day of the event with a career spanning set including classics like Murder On The Dancefloor and Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) and cover versions such as Madonna’s Like A Prayer and Alcazar’s Crying At The Discotheque.
Although Rick Astley’s Saturday set – which took place at the same time in the day – aired as part of the network’s coverage, fans were disappointed that Sophie’s performance wasn’t broadcast, with a re-run of Saturday’s Pretenders set shown instead.
“Totally confused as to why Sophie Ellis-Bextor is not on the iPlayer #Glastonbury Live stream right now,” one fan penned on Twitter. “They showed Rick Astley at the same time in UHD yesterday. What is going on @BBCiPlayer?”
“Urgh really wanted to see Sophie Ellis Bextor. Being going round in circles on iplayer only to see they’re not showing her,” wrote another, while a third added: “Really poor not showing Sophie Ellis-Bextor live.”
In response, Sophie – who recently returned to the Top 10 of the UK charts with her seventh album, ‘HANA’ – shared a message with fans, explaining: “I’m getting a lot of messages asking about watching my @glastonbury set on iPlayer.
“Obviously, that would have been wonderful, but sadly due to hours on the day it wasn’t possible for the BBC to cover my set. Next time…!”
However, it seemed the day couldn’t have gone better for the singer, with Sophie sharing a snap of herself and her band on stage and calling the moment a “career highlight”.
