Erasure’s classic hit A Little Respect has topped a Virgin Radio Pride listener’s poll to be named the station’s Ultimate Pride Anthem.
The synth-pop duo beat out stars including Cher, Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Steps to bag the No. 1 spot with the single, lifted from their third studio album ‘The Innocents’.
It was closely followed by Christina Aguilera’s hit Beautiful, which finished in second place, and Steps’ cover of Bee Gees’ Tragedy at three.
Numbers four and five go to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way and Spice Up Your Life by Spice Girls.
While the Top 20 is packed with hits, there are a number of surprising omissions, with anthems like 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton and Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like a Woman missing out on a spot.
