Dolly Parton has ruled out returning to the road for an extensive tour.
The country music icon is known for her spectacular lime performances, but at the age of 76 she insists she’s given up touring for good.
“I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then,” she tells Pollstar. “Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival.
“But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore.”
The 9 to 5 star last toured in 2016 in support of her album ‘Pure & Simple’, with a mammoth 60 shows in North America.
Admitting she would “not feel right” being away from her 80-year-old husband Carl Dean for weeks at a time, she adds: “I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy
“I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband. We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me.
“Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fans.”
Dolly recently released the Ultimate Deluxe Edition of her third festive album ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’, featuring an impressive eight new tracks, including her collaboration with Rod Stewart on Baby, It’s Cold Outside and cuts from her ‘A Smoky Mountain Christmas’ (1986) TV movie.
In a review of the album, Retro Pop called ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’ “a joy of a record and a gift from the superstar […] boasting an eclectic selection that encompasses all aspects of the period”.
‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’ is available now.
