Dolly Parton could be set to make her debut at the top of the UK Singles Chart following her death last week.

The country music icon passed away last Tuesday (August 25) following a brief battle with cancer, resulting in a posthumous surge in streams across her catalogue.

Last week saw the classic ‘Jolene’ re-enter the Top 10 at No. 9, with ‘9 to 5’ and the Kenny Rogers duet ‘Islands in the Stream’ reaching new peaks at No. 12 and No. 13, respectively.

Now, ‘9 to 5’ – which was penned for the 1980 comedy film of the same name – could make its Top 10 debut, leading the first midweek update ahead of ‘Jolene’ at No. 2 and ‘Islands in the Stream’ at No. 7.

In a press release, the Official Charts Company reports a 350% week-on-week increase in streams and sales of the classic track.

And while it’s since dropped to No. 3, with ‘Jolene’ at No. 5, there are only 2,000 units between the Top 5, meaning the track could still give Parton her first chart-topper.
