Debbie Gibson’s third album ‘Anything Is Possible’ gets a second shot at the spotlight thanks to an expanded 2CD deluxe edition.
Originally released in November 1990, the album features three singles – including the US Top 40 hit Anything Is Possible, (This So-Called) Miracle and One Hand, One Heart – and is presented in two halves: NRG↑ and Mood Swings.
Across the collection, the singer once-again writes or co-writes each track, with Motown legend Lamont Dozier, of the songwriting/production titans Holland-Dozier-Holland, also contributing to the set.
Despite the success of her previous chart-topping LP ‘Electric Youth’, the follow-up failed to hit the same heights, although it remains a fan-favourite and contains some of Gibson’s career-best work.
Clocking in at 18 tracks, disc one is a comprehensive look back on the album, although the absence of the Japanese bonus track Without You is unfortunate, given how cohesive the rest of the double-disc set is.
Meanwhile, a second disc of remixes has 15 versions of the album’s singles, courtesy of Harding & Curnow, Jellybean, PWL and others.
The fold-out digipak comes with complete liner notes, in which the star reflects on the creation of the LP, alongside an impressive selection of imagery from the era.
Arriving after 4-disc editions of ‘Out of the Blue’ and ‘Electric Youth’, it’s a shame ‘Anything Is Possible’ is restricted to 2CDs – maybe the vaults were relatively empty, who knows?
But considering how overlooked the album was the first time round, it’s about time the LP finally gets another chance to shine!
‘Anything Is Possible’ is available on 2CD.
