Daniel Bedingfield is eyeing a return to the charts with a remake of one of his classic hits.
The singer’s sister Natasha recently returned to the UK Top 20 after her iconic 2004 single Unwritten featured in the movie ‘Anyone But You’ – and now Daniel is hoping he can capitalise on one of his older tracks too.
“I’m gonna redo Gotta Get Thru This,” he told the Daily Star’s Wired column. “I’ve got people that made some classic drum and bass/ garage songs, and we’re working on a new version which I am very excited about.
“I just did a drum and bass festival in Tulum and I did all the new songs I’ve got. All the old songs, I realised, are suited to true drum and bass.
“That’s because I was raised on reggae. My parents’ best mates were Jamaican in London.
“Reggae is the foundation that I write from, so drum and bass is the same tempo but just sped up twice.”
Bedingfield will return to the stage in April to perform his biggest hits during three shows across England and he reflected upon the “incredible drive” he had as a child who was inspired by the likes The Beatles and The Beach Boys.
He added: “The goal to make epic music, to push garage forward, to push drum ‘n’ bass forward, to impress my peers, to impress me, we’d listen to each other’s stuff, we’d try and make the next song that each other goes crazy about, kind of like The Beach Boys and The Beatles did.
“That’s incredibly driven for a nine-year-old until my early teens.”
The tour launches in Manchester on April 21, after which Bedingfield will play Birmingham on April 22 before wrapping at The London Palladium on April 23.
