A new documentary will examine the production and legacy of Michael Jackson’s Super Bowl XXVII halftime show.
Premiering on Hulu and ESPN next year, ‘Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl’ will delve into that King of Pop’s iconic 1993 performance at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California and explore how it set a new benchmark for halftime shows.
Featuring never-before-seen footage of Jackson and his team preparing for the performance, the film is directed by Bao Nguyen, who helmed ‘The Greatest Night in Pop’ (2024), about the making of ‘We Are the World’, and is due to land in February 2027.
Jackson’s performance began with a voice-over from James Earl Jones, after which the artist launched onto the stage via a trapdoor and was met with almost two minutes of applause, before diving into a setlist including ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Black or White’ and ‘Heal the World’.
