Damon Albarn’s sold-out show at the iconic Globe Theatre on the banks of London’s River Thames will now be made available to fans around the world.
The special performance from Shakespeare’s Globe on Monday, September 20 will stream live at 19.30 BST and will also be available to stream in North & South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
The Blur and Gorillaz frontman says: “I love playing in the round and at The Globe you can see the moon too, marvellous.”
Accompanied by his band and a string quartet, the performance marks a rare solo appearance for Damon, who presents tracks from across his songbook, including his forthcoming new album ‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’.
Originally intended as an orchestral piece inspired by the landscapes of Iceland, the LP saw the star return to the studio during lockdown and revisit the 11 tracks, which “explore themes of fragility, loss, emergence and rebirth”.
He says: “I have been on my own dark journey while making this record and it led me to believe that a pure source might still exist.”
‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’ will be available digitally along with a number of physical formats, including CD, Vinyl (in a variety of coloured editions) and Cassette. A limited edition 7” vinyl, featuring an exclusive track from the recording, is also available.
