Cub Sport have shared Songs About It as the latest release from their forthcoming fifth album ‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’.
The euphoric electro pop number is the fourth to be lifted from the LP, following Keep Me Safe, Replay and Always Got The Love.
“We’re super happy to be sharing Songs About It with the world! It feels so good to venture further into this euphoric new era and going by the reaction at festivals so far, this one has big fan favourite energy,” says the group.
‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’ is the follow-up to the group’s 2020 album ‘Like Nirvana’, which peaked at No. 2 in their home country of Australia.
RETROPOP named Cub Sport as One to Watch in 2023, with Tim and his husband and bandmate Sam Netterfield speaking exclusively about their new music.
“I knew that I wanted the next era of Cub Sport to feel a bit more uplifting,” said Tim. “Even if the lyrics weren’t necessarily happy, I wanted that feeling around it.”
It’s a conscious choice that came about when they finally got to perform their latest LP on stage, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. “Our album that we put out in 2020 was super personal and, sonically, reflected the journey of all the lyrics. It’s like a big emotional purge,” he added.
“At the end of the year, we got to play two hometown shows that were seated and socially distanced, and I didn’t realise how emotional it would be for me. I was struggling to not burst into tears!
“So that contributed to the vision for the next era and I thought it would be nice to be able to find a more joyful sound.”
