Corinne Bailey Rae looks to have new music on the way.
The singer-songwriter – who is nominated for the Mercury Prize for her latest album ‘Black Rainbows‘ – revealed she’s working on a new set of tunes, including 10 unreleased cuts from her last LP.
“I am working on new music,” she told The Sun’s Bizarre column. “I have 10 more songs I wrote for ‘Black Rainbows’ which I’m still working on and I am trying to work on new ideas and be free with new music as well rather than just obsessing on production for those songs.”
Back in 2006, Corinne broke into the global charts with a run of hits including Put Your Records On and Like A Star, but these days she’s less interested in commercial acclaim, preferring to invest all of her focus into the creative process.
“I try not to focus on reviews or awards. It’s nice to be acknowledged but success for me is the feeling I have when I play the music,” she added. “I never read reviews which I think is really good advice for any artist.
“You can’t absorb all the good things and you also don’t want to get affected by the negative ones either.”
Corinne appears on the Mercury Prize shortlist of 12 albums alongside the likes of Cat Burns’ ‘early twenties’ and Charli XCX’s ‘BRAT’. The winner will be revealed in September.
