Chesney Hawkes admits there’s a “possibility” he’ll star in a ‘Buddy’s Song’ sequel down the line.
The singer-songwriter topped the charts in 1991 with The One and Only lifted from the hit movie, in which he played the eponymous Buddy.
Speaking to Retro Pop in a previously unpublished interview from 2021, Chesney opens up about his plans for the future, revealing a follow-up to the hit movie “has been talked about”.
“It has been talked about. I’m not going to say that it’s going to happen, but it’s funny,” he says, “I never thought that it would, obviously 30 years later, but it’s a possibility, to be honest with you.It would be full circle for me, really, and I do think the British public would be interested in it.
However, he’s keen to deviate from the original plotline, adding: “Although the sequel to ‘Buddy’s Song’ was called ‘Buddy’s Blues’ and Buddy died. Buddy was shot and killed in ‘Buddy’s Blues’. So I guess it wouldn’t be the sequel…
“I think maybe Buddy should survive,” he insists, adding with a smile: “It would be full circle for me, really, and I do think the British public would be interested in it.
“It would be an interesting story. So watch his space!”
