Cher isn’t looking to book a big-name Hollywood star for her upcoming biopic.
The music icon unveiled plans to turn her life story into a major movie as she celebrated her 75th birthday last month, and she’s making sure she’s involved in every fine detail of the project.
Although casting for the flick has yet to officially begin, the Believe star admitted she’s keen to have a rising star play her younger self, as opposed to casting a household name.
She told the ‘Just for Variety’ podcast: “We were talking about it yesterday, and we’re just trying to think of [actors]…
“I said, ‘I don’t think we know her yet.'”
And while Cher, who recently released her latest single Walls, is involved in the production process now, she has no idea how that will develop as the movie comes together.
She added: “I know the people so I’m sure they’ll… listen to things I have to say. But it doesn’t mean I’m going to get the final cut.”
The diva has recruited Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth to pen a script for the project, which will be produced by ‘Mamma Mia!’ creator Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman.
Judy previously worked with Cher in 2018 when the I Found Someone star appeared as Ruby Sheridan in ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’.
She told Deadline: “Gary and I are thrilled to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her empowering and true life odyssey to the big screen.
“One cannot help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger than life talent, fortitude, unique wit, warmth and vision.
“Her unparalleled success in music, film and TV have inspired generations. We could not be happier to tell her story to cinema audiences.”
Along with the movie project, Cher recently teased new music is on the horizon, admitting she’s “never heard anything like this before”.
