Cher was attacked by a man at the stage door while she was performing on Broadway.
The singer/actress starred in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean on screen and on stage in 1982 and, while it marked her debut on The Great White Way, it also saw the star suffer a terrifying ambush.
Speaking to The Guardian, she explained: “I had a man try to kill me. I always got dropped off at the stage door when I was doing Come Back To the Five and Dime on Broadway.
“I thought he was going to shake my hand, and he grabbed my arm and put it behind my back,” explained the I Found Someone singer. “He started pushing me down the alleyway, and he said: ‘If you make a sound, I’ll kill you.’
“Two fans, who later became friends, saw something was wrong, and they started screaming and ran towards me, and he ran away.”
Ahead of her 75th birthday in 2021, Cher is hoping to return to the stage to complete her Here We Go Again Tour and accompanying Las Vegas residency – where she has performed since 2016.
While the pop legend remains fit and healthy, she couldn’t help but poke fun at tabloid reports suggesting she’s battling various medical issues, quipping: “My entire life I am dying!
“My entire life… It’s the [National] Enquirer. It sells magazines. I don’t know why they pick dying because I never have done.”
Among her plans for the new year is also new music, with Cher recently teasing she’s “going to have some” new tracks out soon.
