A new Celine Dion documentary has been announced by Amazon MGM.
The film, titled ‘I Am: Celine Dion’, will spotlight the singer’s recent health struggles, with Emmy-winning director Irene Taylor helming the project.
According to a press release, the film spans the course of one year and sees the Think Twice star open up about her personal life and experience with the rare neurological disorder, stiff-person syndrome, with which she was diagnosed in 2022.
“This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me,” says Celine.
“As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realised how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans. During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis.”
“Celine Dion is a global megastar with a career defined not only by her extraordinary work ethic and passion, but by her dedication to her fans,” adds Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios.
“This documentary is a raw, intimate portrayal of a pivotal time in her personal life and career, pulling back the curtain on her journey as she overcomes an unthinkable diagnosis. It’s an honour to be trusted with her story, and we can’t wait to share it with Prime Video audiences around the world.”
The diagnosis forced Celine to axe the remainder of her ‘Courage World Tour’, of which she said at the time: “I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100 per cent.
“It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again.
“I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”
A statement from her team continued: “We do have every hope that someday soon, Celine will be able to come to all of these cities in Europe to perform for her amazing fans, but that time simply is not now.”
