Britney Spears is reportedly working on her 10th studio album and has enlisted Charli XCX to pen tracks for the project.
The pop superstar released her most recent LP, ‘Glory’, in 2016, and after releasing collaborations with Elton John and will.i.am over the past few years, she’s apparently readying a new album.
On the project, which looks to coincide with the 25th anniversary of her debut album, ‘…Baby One More Time’, sources tell The Sun’s Bizarre column: “The Britney album is being kept top secret.
“Work has been going on behind the scenes for quite a while to gather a series of killer songs to bring Britney back with a bang.
“She is known as one of the biggest pop stars of the 21st century so there is pressure for the music to be great.
“Charli has a great track record when it comes to writing clever pop songs.
“She went into the studio earlier in the year to make some songs using Britney’s guidance of what she is after.
“She came up with a really strong track that is expected to make it on to the album, which Britney’s team hope will be out in 2024.”
Back in October, Britney took to social media to tell fans she’s been working on a new single that appears to be titled Hate You To Like Me.
“I wrote a new song,” she penned alongside a shot from the music video to her 2001 song, Overprotected. “No beef with anyone… just being a narcissist in a claimed, self-entitled way,.
“It’s to accumulate interest by giving ego with my eyes closed because I hear important people do that these days.”
Talk of a return to the charts follows the release of the singer’s book, ‘The Woman In Me’, which has dominated headlines for revelations about her abortion whilst dating Justin Timberlake and subsequent breakup with the *NSYNC star.
Following its publication, the Everytime star took to social media with a since-deleted post, hinting a follow-up is in progress.
“Humor is the cure to everything !!! Play on !!! Volume 2 will be released next year … get ready!” she penned (via Variety).
