Britney Spears has teased new music in a post on social media.
The pop princess took to Instagram on Sunday (October 29) to tell fans she’s working on a new single that appears to be titled Hate You To Like Me.
“I wrote a new song,” she penned alongside a shot from the music video to her 2001 song, Overprotected.
“No beef with anyone… just being a narcissist in a claimed, self-entitled way,” she added. “It’s to accumulate interest by giving ego with my eyes closed because I hear important people do that these days.”
Talk of a return to the charts follows the release of the singer’s book, ‘The Woman In Me’, which has dominated headlines for revelations about her abortion whilst dating Justin Timberlake and subsequent breakup with the *NSYNC star.
Following its publication, the Everytime star took to social media with a since-deleted post, hinting a follow-up is in progress.
“Humor is the cure to everything !!! Play on !!! Volume 2 will be released next year … get ready!” she penned (via Variety).
Its release coincides with the 25th anniversary of her debut single, …Baby One More Time, which was celebrated by songwriter and producer Max Martin as a moment that “changed the landscape of pop music”.
“Da Vinci painted ‘Mona Lisa’ and Max Martin composed ‘…Baby One More Time’, and I think this is no overstatement to claim that every single second of ‘…Baby One More Time’ is f**king glorious,” he said. “’Baby’ is one of these songs that you just can’t ignore, whether you are a pop music lover or not.”
Britney released her most-recent single, the will.i.am collaboration Mind Your Business, over the summer, with the rapper hinting the pop superstar has a wealth of unreleased material in the vault.
