The Weeknd’s new album was inspired by a pair of classic Britney Spears hits.
Last week, the singer launched his latest era with Take My Breath, the first track from the follow-up to his global smash hit album ‘After Hours’.
During the latest edition of his Apple Music 1 ‘Memento Mori’ radio show, the star played “a mix of music that showcases tracks inspiring the new Dawn era,” including Britney tracks Toxic and Everytime.
Both tracks featured on her 2003 album ‘In The Zone’; Toxic was co-written by Cathy Dennis, while Britney wrote Everytime with Annet Artani.
Other stars whose music features on the latest instalment of the radio show include Nas, Swedish House Mafia, Kid Cudi, Kanye West and Tyler, the Creator.
Speaking about the project, the Can’t Feel My Face hitmaker, real name Abel Tesfaye, teased: “Album is pretty much done.
“Just doing some final tweaks, some mixing notes, additional vocals.”
His support for Britney comes amid the singer’s much-publicised legal battle to be freed from her conservatorship, which has been ongoing since 2008.
Admitting she’s been left “traumatised” and “depressed”, Britney pleaded with a Los Angeles judge to call time on the conservatorship back in June and shared her wish to cut ties with her father and open legal proceedings against her family.
Following the hearing, fans supporting the #FreeBritney movement and stars took to social media to lend their support to the hitmaker.
