Britney Spears’ controversial conservatorship is to be the subject of a forthcoming TV documentary.
The film, made by the The New York Times, is expected to chart the …Baby One More Time hitmaker’s rise to pop stardom and the subsequent controversy over her welfare.
“Her phenomenal rise to superstardom. A downfall that shocked the world. And now, an ensuing conservatorship battle,” reads a teaser posted by FX Documentaries on Twitter, alongside a trailer for the show.
It features interviews with several people involved in the campaign to free the star from the legal arrangement.

A description for the film reads: “People close to Britney Spears and lawyers tied to her conservatorship now reassess her career as she battles her father in court over who should control her life.”
The Gimme More star is currently locked in a legal battle against her father, Jamie Spears, who gained control over Britney’s life following her public breakdown in 2008.

According to reports, the Piece of Me hitmaker is refusing to return to the stage until Jamie steps down from overseeing her affairs.
While Britney has petitioned to have him permanently removed from her conservatorship, fans have also advocated for her freedom with the hashtag #FreeBritney.
Their fight will also form part of Framing Britney Spears, which will air on FX and Hulu on February 5th, 2021 as the sixth episode of The New York Times Presents series’ first season.
Britney hasn’t released new music since dropping her ninth album, Glory, back in 2016.
The LP, featuring the singles Make Me and Slumber Party, was recently reissued on 2LP white vinyl with an alternative cover and expanded tracklist, which includes international bonus track Mood Ring and new cuts Swimming in the Stars and Matches (with Backstreet Boys).
